Glacier / Mountain

The rugged Norwegian Mountains are packed with opportunities for adventure and exploration. Scaling walls, discovering caves, taking in breathtaking vistas and more. The availability and proximity to world class mountains is unmatched. We offer a variety of trips and courses designed to maximise the beauty surrounding us here in Meløy. To truly experience the freedom of the hills you need to access these mountains from all directions, above, on the side, and underneath.

A glacier is a distinctive world. The ice is a deep blue colour and forms summits and ridges with deep crevasses in between. Svartisen is the second largest glacier in Norway and covers an incredible 372 km2 of the country in ice. Our access point to the glacier is the lowest of any of the European mainland, at about 100 meters above sea level. These surroundings are perfect for a range of activities. We have several trips and difficulty levels to choose from.

Here´s a quick overview of the trips we have planned in the near future. If you wish to book a trip outside of these days, please don´t hesitate to contact us at post@rocksnrivers.no

Booking

Level of difficulty

Good fitness and agility is required. We highly advice prior mountain hiking experience, e.g. from the Alps or similar terrain, due to the difficulty of the glacier ice of Svartisen.

Minimum age: 15 years. Previous mountain experience for teenagers is strongly recommended.

Duration

A typical day trip on the glacier takes about 6-8 hours. To make the most of it, an extra day in the area could inspire other adventures.

Our glacier course is broken into two mini-courses. ‘Blue Ice’ and ‘Snow Covered Ice’ each are 3 days duration. They can be booked together or separately. Date: Private course only.
